On September 24th 2012, Hoa Phat Steel JSC has started 5 new coal gas generators after five months of construction. This is part of a strategy to expand the phase 2 of Hoa Phat integrated steel complex, reducing fuel cost as well as operating cost significantly for the company.

Coal gas ovens had been started construction in April 2012 with a total investment of about VND 42 billion, including items such as main oven, coal feeding system, gas washing tower,  electrostatic dust filter, dust spray, hydraulic system, automatical electric system, booster blower and inverter control fan. Earlier, the current steel rolling mill had 5 coal gas ovens. After five new clusters put into operation, the old ovens will be dismantled and moved to new installation location, ensuring production activities normally, not interrupted by the process of moving, connection of oven clusters.

Starting to dry new ovens

Compared with old coal gas oven types and gas cluster which using at Hoa Phat steel rolling mill in Nhu Quynh industrial, new gas furnace cluster uses raw coal that is pressed in cake instead of lump coal 4B. The entire line is designed seamlessly with the feed and load conveyor system, dust coal will be loaded through the cake pressure line, kiln dried and then transported directly to the gas oven with closed continuous process. This investment will save a lot of production costs for the Complex.

In accordance with plans to expand phase 2, there will have 10 gas ovens put into operation. The planning of coal gas ovens’s location is a proper step, because after planning, coal gas of 2 blast oven clusters will be utilized to provide both two rolling mills through coal mixing equipment. This will significantly reduce fuel cost (about 45% of total coal gas for 2 heating furnaces).

In parallel with operation of coal gas ovens, the company is conducting steel rolling plant No. 3, which expected to run cold trial by April 2013, and launch the first product by June 2013.
