Recently, the first batches of Hoa Phat finely crushed blast furnace slag S95 were officially launched to the market. This shows Hoa Phat's determination in optimizing technology, turning waste generated during the process of iron smelting into building materials, protecting the environment and bringing significant added value to the production chain of the Group.

What is S95 fine grinding blast furnace slag?

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS - Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) is a solid waste, a byproduct of pig iron production in blast furnaces. The process of manufacturing fine-grained blast furnace slag is not too complicated and quite common in many developed countries around the world. After being put into the grinding line, granulated slag to an area greater than 5,000 cm2 / g, meeting the S95 type standard according to TCVN 11586: 2016, finer than cement and becoming a very active mineral additive Good for cement, concrete and mortar.

In early 2018, implementing the policy of processing, deep processing on the spot and utilizing excess heat in the process of iron and steel smelting, Hoa Phat Group renovated the system of granulating slag with high pressure cold water and invested one more blast furnace slag crushing line in Hai Duong Iron and Steel Complex. This is a vertical, synchronous technology line with the most modern type, with a capacity of 115 tons / h, equivalent to 750,000 tons / year.

So, Hoa Phat has become the first steel producer in Vietnam to turn solid waste into a high-value construction material.

The entire S95 fine steel blast furnace slag products of Hoa Phat Steel have been posted by domestic and foreign cement and concrete production enterprises, construction contractors and enterprises under the Vietnam Association of Concrete Piles sign up to buy or be a distributor.

S95 - Potentially active mineral additives, reducing the cost of concrete

According to Dr. Mai Van Thanh - Officer of Hoa Phat Group's Research and Development Department, S95 Hoa Phat fine-grained blast furnace slag has many outstanding advantages, applied as highly activated mineral additives for cement production, concrete, mortar or binder to reinforce the weak ground.

With S95, Vietnam can mass produce cement and concrete in seawater, saltwater and brackish water environment, prevent the erosion of chlorine and sulfate, meet the demand of increasing life expectancy for constructions. at sea, on islands and along the coast. Add 30-50% of S95 to replace cement will produce low-heat concrete and high-grade concrete used for large concrete blocks, concrete with high compressive strength and high waterproofing.

S95 can also be used for concrete piles to handle weak foundations, as materials for ceiling panels, wall panels and sand cement tiles. In particular, this product will help lower the cost of ready-mixed concrete when replacing 30-50% S95 for PC50 and PCB40 cement, because the price of S95 Hoa Phat is lower than the price of cement.

In fact, concrete grade 300 - 500 is used for Hoa Phat Iron and Steel Integrated Complex Project in Dung Quat with the rate of 30% S95 and 70% of PCB40 cement with strength 10-15% higher than graded using 100% original cement. In addition, existing cement plants will also easily increase production without investing in additional grinding machines, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions for the cement industry.

A number of factories and cement grinding stations have previously used Hoa Phat blast furnace slag as an active mineral additive in the production of PCB40 cement, durable sulphate cement, low-heat cement like Hoang Thach and Hai Phong, Thanh Cong, Hai Van, Cam Pha, Saigon, FICO, Kien Luong, Insee etc. according to the technology of grinding granular slag with clinker, gypsum and some other mineral additives are also researching to switch to technology, adding Hoa Phat's finely ground S95 mixing system.

When Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Integrated Complex is completed and fully operational by 2020, the total amount of blast furnace slag generation is expected to be 2.6 million tons / year. With this output, Hoa Phat believes that it will meet significantly the demand for high quality cement accessories throughout Vietnam. More importantly, the Group has optimized production technology, basically solved the problem of solid waste, bringing a stable source of revenue by hundreds of billion VND each year thanks to this additive.
