On August 5, 2025, the No. 2 Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) and RH-type vacuum refining furnace of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Integrated Iron and Steel Complex officially went into operation. With the BOF and RH furnaces, Hoa Phat can now produce steel grades meeting the world’s highest quality requirements.

Both the BOF and RH furnaces were designed, manufactured, and supplied by SMS Group (Germany). The BOF has a capacity of 300 tons per batch and a daily output of 9,000 tons, producing molten steel with very low impurities. The commissioning of the BOF and RH furnaces is a key step in preparing to bring Blast Furnace No. 2 of the project into operation, aiming to complete the entire project within September 2025.
The blast furnace at Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 has a volume of 2,500 m³ - double that of Dung Quat 1 - while consuming less energy. Hoa Phat has also invested beyond current environmental standards, especially in reducing CO₂ emissions and energy consumption.
The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Integrated Iron and Steel Complex uses technology lines from European and G7 partners such as SMS (Germany) and Primetals (UK). SMS Group has been a long-term supplier of steelmaking equipment to Hoa Phat. In May 2025, Hoa Phat and SMS Group signed a contract to supply technology and production lines for rail steel and structural steel, with a capacity of 700,000 tons per year.
Since mid-June, Hoa Phat Dung Quat has put the No. 2 thick slab continuous casting machine into operation, with a casting capacity of 20,000 tons per day. The machine is equipped with world-leading technology designed, manufactured, and supplied by Primetals, headquartered in London and a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This advanced system not only boosts production efficiency and optimizes product quality but also saves energy and reduces operating costs.

In addition to standard HRC products, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project focuses on producing high-grade HRC for industries such as manufacturing, automotive, food processing, petrochemicals, and household appliances.
Upon completion in September 2025, Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 will bring the Group’s total steel output to 16 million tons per year, including 9 million tons of hot-rolled coil, fully meeting domestic demand for this product in Vietnam.
