In the first half of 2025, the total electricity output from the thermal power plants at Hoa Phat Dung Quat and Hai Duong Integrated Steel Complexes reached over 1.8 billion kWh. This allowed Hoa Phat to be self-sufficient in approximately 90% of the electricity required for steel production. Based on current electricity prices, the value of self-generated power is estimated at nearly VND 3,500 billion.
Hoa Phat generated 1.8 Billion kWh of electricity in 6 months, meeting 90% of its production power needs
The Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Steel Complex is equipped with state-of-the-art production lines from G7 countries, operating under a closed-loop circular technology. This optimizes production, harnesses all excess heat and gas from the iron and steel-making process to enhance power generation efficiency, and reduces production costs.
Hoa Phat recovers all residual heat from coke production and utilizes excess gas from iron and steel processing as fuel for boilers to generate electricity. This power generation technology not only boosts the competitiveness of Hoa Phat’s products but also contributes to environmental protection by reducing CO₂ emissions.
As of June 30, 2025, electricity output from the thermal power plant at the Dung Quat Complex reached 1.45 billion kWh, covering over 90% of the complex’s production power demand.

Since July 2019, one year after the installation of the first generator unit, the plant’s electricity output has fully met the power needs of the entire complex. Cumulative output has grown rapidly year over year, reaching 5 billion kWh in September 2022 and surpassing 10 billion kWh in February 2025.
With the implementation of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project, the company continues to invest heavily in a second waste heat power generation line. The No. 2 Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 240MW comprising four 60MW generator units, increases the total power generation capacity of the integrated complex to 600MW. This ensures 90% of the electricity demand for both HPDQ 1 and HPDQ 2 steel production projects.
Using the same approach, in the first half of this year, self-generated electricity for the Hoa Phat Hai Duong Integrated Steel Complex reached 358 million kWh. Recently, Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel invested in upgrading and replacing the synchronization cabinets for turbine generators No. 1, 2, and 3 to ensure stable power generation when connected to the grid.
The waste heat power generation system not only provides significant energy savings but also plays a key role in Hoa Phat’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, contributing toward carbon neutrality. This is a sustainable solution that utilizes residual heat from the steelmaking process to generate electricity without fossil fuels, easing the load on the national grid - especially during peak summer months.
