Viet Nam exports ground granulated blast-furnace slag S95 for the first time

On September 8^th 2020, the batch of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) S95 of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel was loaded onto the ship for exports to Australia. This has been the first time Viet Nam export S95 product to foreign market, especially Australia which has strict standards and requirements in term of quality.

The shipment includes 2,500 tonnes of S95 finished products manufactured from blast furnace slag at Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel integrated Complex, packed according to Jumbo bag specifications (1.5 tons a bag), grafted with cargo ships carrying out cement exported to Australia.

The ground granulated blast-furnace slag is a byproduct of the iron and steel production process under the closed blast furnace technology. Thanks to the ultra-fast cooling by high pressure water, blast furnace slag is a very good active mineral additive for cement, concrete and has been used for a long time in the world as well as in Viet Nam. The ground granulated blast-furnace slag S95 contributes to thoroughly treating the solid waste in the Hoa Phat’s green steel production process, both protecting the environment and creating a more stable source of income for Hoa Phat Group.

The ground granulated blast-furnace slag S95 has many outstanding advantages. It is used as a highly active mineral additive for the production of cement, concrete, mortar or as a binder to reinforce soft soil. The S95 could be used to produce mass concrete by reducing the hydration of concrete, producing heat-resistant concrete by increasing the heat resistance of concrete, producing durable concrete in seawater, saltwater and brackish water, by increasing the waterproofing of concrete, preventing the intrusion of chlorine and sulfate, meeting the need to increase the longevity of structures on the sea, islands and along coasts.

With two iron and steel production complexes in Kinh Mon - Hai Duong and Dung Quat - Quang Ngai, Hoa Phat can supply to domestic and foreign markets 2.6 million tons of ground granulated blast-furnace slag per year.

The first S95 export shipment to Australia as well as the world market affirmed the prestige and quality of Hoa Phat's products while opening a large distribution channel for the group's S95 products. It is expected that, after this shipment, the partner will continue to order Hoa Phat’s S95 products in a large volume.
