Quang Ngai expects more investment from Hoa Phat

Hi-ranking leaders of the central province of Quag Ngai led by Mr Le Viet Chu, the provincial made a visit to Hoa Phat Group in Ha Noi on May 30th 2019. At the meeting, the province’s leaders expressed their impression on the construction progress of Hoa Phat Dung Quat iron and steel integrated complex while hoping that the group would give priorities in investing into other projects in party secretary Quang Ngai Province in the future.

The meeting was also attended by the province’s leaders, People’s Committee and departments, Dung Quat Economic Zone’s management board, industrial zones. Chairman of Hoa Phat Group, Mr Tran Dinh Long, vice chairman cum general director Mr Tran Tuan Duong, members of management board, board of directors of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company and relevant departments received the delegation.

Mr Mai Van Ha, director of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company reported about the construction progress of Hoa Phat Dung Quat iron and steel integrated complex and some relevant projects in the province. Hoa Phat Group was granted investment licences to six projects in Quang Ngai Province relating to steel production, container port with total investment of around VND68 trillion. Alone the investment for the Dung Quat Hoa Phat iron and steel integrated complex is VND60 trillion.

With the current progress, after two years starting construction of the project, the complex has basically completed 95 per cent of its main items of the first phase, and 60 per cent of the second phase. The first blast furnace of the complex will come into operation in June 2019, the remaining furnaces will be completed according to the 4-month schedule each. A number of wharf areas have been put into operation to serve the imports of equipment and assembly lines, production materials as well as exports of finished steel products to the market. So far, the company has recruited about 6,000 employees, of which over 90 per cent are Quang Ngai people.

To speed up the project’s progress, Mr. Mai Van Ha proposed to the provincial leaders to have supports in terms of procedures, solutions and mechanisms to solve difficulties and problems related to land clearance and resettlement for households within the project scope and expansion phase; solutions to supply raw water for production, speeding up the progress of construction of saline prevention dam in Tra Bong River; sand shields and creating favourable conditions for Hoa Phat Group to deploy a general container port project, upgrading 220KV power station for project operation, ....

The group has invested best things into the projects. It was the reason we proposed the province to untie the above mentioned difficulties, especially land clearance, providing raw water for production and area for building of container port”.

Mr Long also shared plans to invest into other projects in the province. Of which, he proposed to build a 2,000ha seaside urban and tourism area in Pho Khanh and Pho Chau communes, Duc Pho District as the area has tourism potential but unexplored.

Quang Ngai’s party secretary Mr Le Viet Chu highly valued investment activities of Hoa Phat Group in the province while instructing relevant departments and agencies to actively support the group to resolve the difficulties, thus helping them quickly bring the project into operation, promoting the province’s socio-economic development. The leader also welcomed Hoa Phat’s proposal to build a resettlement area themselves for households in the land clearance area. The province would also build road surrounding the Hoa Phat Dung Quat iron and steel integrated complex to improve effectiveness of Dung Quat port and relevant units.

He also welcomed the proposal to build the urban and tourism area of the group. He asked Hoa Phat to have a careful, scientific and feasible plan in each phase to ensure effectively exploit the area in terms of economic, tourism while preserving cultural values of Sa Huynh beach – one of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the central region.

“Quang Ngai Province hopes that big and potential economic groups like Hoa Phat would have long-term and effective investments in the province. I know that Hoa Phat Group has investments in 25-26 cities and provinces. However, we do hope that Hoa Phat would give priorities to have more investment into Quang Ngai, bringing the province in the top investment localities of the group,” Mr Chu said.

On behalf of the Hoa Phat Group, chairman of management board Mr Tran Dinh Long expressed his thanks to supports of the province’s leaders to its projects in the locality. He affirmed that Hoa Phat would continue to studying other projects to have sustainable and long-term development with the province in the future.
