Hoa Phat Coke production technology: Clean production technology

Relizing the importance of protecting environment in parallel with meeting the Coke demand for Hoa Phat Integrated Steel Complex, Hoa Phat Group decided to invest in building integrated Coke factory technology in Kinh Mon district, Hai Duong province. Coke which is produced by this factory applies cleanest and modernest technology in the world and in Vietnam with many outstanding features.

Currently, in Vietnam, Coke production for metallurgy has mostly used old technology, the traditional Coking coal pyrolysis, the outputs include Coke and subproducts such as oil, light oil, tar, etc heavily polluted air and water. Due to the increasing demand of Coke for metallurgy, some advanced – technology countries  started to make researches and apply new Coke manufacture technology. The researches were carried out in America and Germany. One of the latest and most successful technologies is Coke coal manufacture from coking coal and anthracide coal mixed with thermoelectric production from plus heat source. This technology is called Heat of combustion recovery & Clean Coke production Technology ensures environment standard and it is also a Clean Development Mechanism project that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in accordance with the Kyoto protocol.

Coke production system, Phase I of Hoa Phat Energy Company includes 80 laboratories with the capacity of 350,000 tons/year. This is the most modern design of furnace with 6 fire channels distributed to gain maximum heat exchange overall coefficient. The dimension of each laboratory is considered as a room with 14m length, 3.6m width, 2.8m 2.8m height vault  roof, heat-proof steel is designed around the furnace. The laboratory is made by refractory Silicon brick whose duration  is up to 40 years of continuous operation. At the 2 heads of each laboratory, there is the system of hot beehive shelf leading to generation plat, heat-proof steel is designed around the furnace. The heat will be served for the generating plant to produce commercial electricity.

Coke production technology which is based on the Heat of combustion recovery is used Antharacide coal, bringing high economic efficiency, saving significant coking coal import cost, especially suitable for development-oriented and modern industry of Vietnam in the future. Currently, Hoa Phat Energy Company has also registered successful projects with the United Nations and it is certified emissions. This is worthy effort to protect the environment and set environment as one of its operation targets.

The reality shows that Coke production according to Clean Coke production Technology & Heat of combustion recovery of Hoa Phat Coke Production Factory is the important progress in confirmation of strategic vision as well as acceptance and master of world advanced technology to contribute step by steps to modernize Vietnam industry in the integration trend. Coke will help Hoa Phat Integrated Steel Complex to be active in material for steel production, supply high-quality metallurgical coke for domestic steel plants and for export.
