Boston University studied the value chain production model at Hoa Phat

On March 7, 2017, a delegation of Boston University, United States led by Mr. Yoo-Taek Lee visited and worked at Hoa Phat Group to have deeper understanding about the value chain production model at the group.

Mr. Yoo-Taek Lee is a senior lecturer at Boston University and has worked for several years at Posco Steel Group in South Korea.

Pham Thi Kim Oanh, Chief Financial Officer, introduced about the Hoa Phat Group, especially the steel industry which the group is interested in, emphasizing that Hoa Phat Steel Complex in northern Hai Duong Province has been the most modern steel production complex in Viet Nam with capacity of nearly 2 million tonnes per year. Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex is currently under construction, with a capacity of 4 million tonnes in central Quang Ngai Province, including 2 million tonnes of long steel and 2 million tonnes of hot rolled coils .

The two projects use the closed blast furnace technology which is friendly to environment. Hoa Phat targets to develop its steel production chain from iron ore to finished steel products such as construction steel, wire rod steel, welding rod, hot rolled coil, post-tensioning steel, steel pipe, coated steel and even stainless steel at Dung Quat.

The delegation visited the Hoa Phat Steel Complex in northern Hai Duong Province to study steel production process

The Boston University’s delegation highly valued scale and big investment of Hoa Phat Group for its steel production chain. In addition, they raised many questions about spending, advantages and difficulties in investment and operation of the complex as well as competitiveness of Hoa Phat’s steel products with other big producers in the world.

The delegation was given an overview introduction about the complex and visiting some main production areas. Mr. Lee sent his thanks to Hoa Phat Group for their warm welcome and expressing good impression about the visit. He expected that all students received useful knowledge and reality for their studies about production chain to build reports for organisations and investment funds in the world after the visit.

The visit was under the programme to work with some big and typical firms operating production value chain model in some Asian countries connecting by JP Morgan Investment Funds. Hoa Phat was chosen as their destination in Vietnam with some other big groups.
