Hoa Phat Steel Joint Stock Company has just completed installation of coal pressing line to provide pressed coal for system of 10 gas generators - an important category of phase 2 – Hoa Phat Integrated steel complex. This line has been invested to replace stove coal 4B by dust coal 3C which pressed into ovoid, saving about VND60 billion per year.

The coal pressing line is connected in parallel with the system of 10 gas generators. Once it’s officially done, the system will create a closed line from pressing dust coal to gas generators. Ovoid coal is transferred to gas generator by conveyor system. Gas generator combines with converter’s coal gas will provide heat for 2 heating furnaces of 2 rolling mills in the complex. Even if necessary, the system can supply heat for steel making, blast area.

Coal pressing line are being tested

Mr. Nguyen Duc Duyen, deputy director of Hoa Phat Steel Joint Stock Company said: "Standard capacity of the line is 50,000 tons/year but it can run 8 to 10 tonnes / hour (equivalent to about 70,000 tons / year), meeting maximum demand of 10 gas generators operating at the complex".

According to the Company, purpose of this investment is to reduce the cost of steel production. Using ovoid coal will save about VND 400,000 - 600,000 per ton of coal. In case of both two steel rolling mills in the complex operate full capacity of 850,000 tonnes / year, the company will save about 60 billion if using 100% of ovoid pressed coal, with coal consumption rate of 75 kg per ton of product. On the other hand, using ovoid coal will help the company taking more initiative in coal material source for the complex, because stove coal 4B is increasingly scarce.

Coal pressed into ovoid form will be a very effective alternative to stove coal 4B

Coal pressing line has been testing from Nov 1 to Nov 10th 2012 to calibrate before put into official operation as soon as this November.
