In the first 6 months of the year, the total electricity generation output at thermal power plants of Hoa Phat Steel Integrated Complexes in Hai Duong and Dung Quat reached over 1 billion kWh. With the output, Hoa Phat is self-sufficient in most of its electricity production and saving about VND1.7 trillion, contributing to improving its products’ competitiveness.

Mr Bui Van Huu, director of thermal power plant of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Company said: “Hoa Phat Group applies closed technology solutions, thoroughly recovering excess heat to operate generators. The modern production lines from G7 countries help optimize production and take advantage of all sources of excess heat and gas in coke and cast iron smelting to improve power generation efficiency.

In the first 6 months of the year, Hoa Phat Group's electricity generation output reached over 1 billion kWh

Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Integrated Complex currently has 4 generators with a total capacity of 240MW. Its total amount of electricity generated to the 110kV station in the first half of the year reached 815 million kWh, equal to the total electricity output of the whole last year. This means that Hoa Phat Dung Quat is self-sufficient in 70 per cent of its electricity production. The complex has saved VND1.3 trillion in the first half of the year in comparison with the current power price.

The Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Integrated Complex achieved an electricity output of 242 million kWh, representing 50 per cent year-on-year increase. In the January-June period, the Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Complex saved VND400 billion as it has been self-sufficient of energy for production.

Mr. Dong Xuan Van, Head of Electrical Equipment Department - Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Joint Stock Company, the company put into operation turbine No. 5 with capacity of 50MW, bringing the plant’s total power generation capacity to 114MW since March 2021. The company's electricity autonomy rate is currently over 90 per cent.

According to experts from the Vietnam Association of Metallurgical Science and Technology, the recovery and use of residual heat and excess gas for power generation is an effective energy-saving solution, reducing product costs, minimizing environmental pollution. This solution also contributes to reduce the pressure of dispatching the national power grid, especially during the peak hot season.
