In 2020, Hoa Phat Group’s imports of machines, equipment, and materials for production reportedly hit nearly US$2 billion. Of the total, some 35 per cent, or $700 million, came from Australia.
According to Vietnamese Embassy to Australia, statistics from Global Trade Atlas showed that Australia’s exports to Vietnam reached $4.4 billion in 2020, 16 per cent of which was imported by Hoa Phat, reaching $705 million, making the industrial manufacturer the largest Vietnamese client of the country.
The total import value of Hoa Phat from the Australian market will be increased by 1.2 and 2 times in 2019 and 2020, respectively, to $325 million and $705 million.
Hoa Phat Group plans to import $1.44 billion worth of commodities from Australia in 2021, more than doubling last year’s figure. The imports will include around 4 million tonnes of iron ore, 3.5 million tonnes of coal of different types and 145,000 cows.
Hoa Phat is the Australia’s largest trade partner in Viet Nam, accounting for 16 per cent of the country’s total exports
In terms of export value, in 2020, the Group achieved a turnover of more than US $ 1 billion. The proportion of exports in the revenue of Hoa Phat 2020 was 26%. Asian countries contributed 90% of the Group's export value. In which, the export of construction steel and high quality steel is USD 966 million, accounting for 95.2% of the export value.
