Hoa Phat Dung Quat Container General Port puts its first berth into operation

On the morning of August 20, 2023, Hoa Phat Dung Quat Container General Port put berth number 6 into operation with the reception of the first commercial ship. That is the ship MV SCSC LUCK (Hong Kong) with a tonnage of over 8,300 DWT.

With an investment capital of over VNS3.7 trillion, Hoa Phat Dung Quat Container Port Project includes 3 berths (numbers 6, 7 and 8). The expected annual loading and unloading capacity is 6 million tons of goods, capable of receiving ships of up to 50,000 DWT. In which, the capacity of the port’s phase 1 (berth 6) is 2 million tons of goods a year. The project started its construction in early 2022.

While Hoa Phat Dung Quat specialized port only serves the internal loading and unloading needs of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex, the General Container Port is an international seaport, serving the general needs of cargo handling, logistics and port logistics services at Dung Quat Economic Zone and surrounding areas.

To ensure progress, Hoa Phat General Port Company JSC has promoted construction investment, and deployed many solutions in terms of people, technology and facilities to put the wharves into operation, ensuring quality, efficiency and safety.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trinh - Deputy Director of Hoa Phat General Port Joint Stock Company said: "The event of welcoming the first commercial ship has an important meaning, marking the first wharf of the port into in-time operation. From now on, Dung Quat port cluster has an additional international seaport unit providing logistics services, professional loading and unloading, and modern equipment to serve the development of Dung Quat Economic Zone." 

The first international commercial ship arrived at Hoa Phat Dung Quat general container port carrying nearly 6,000 tons of goods and equipment

In phase 1, the port operates a main wharf, ensuring to receive ships of up to 50,000 DWT with many modern equipment. A typical example is the rotating base crane with a lifting capacity of up to 32 tons, supplied from the world's leading units, along with many serving transportation equipment such as: tractors, dump trucks, 5 tons, 15 tons, 28 tons forklifts etc.

Previously, Hoa Phat General Port received the first tugboat named Hai Au 3 built by Damen Group, Netherlands to serve the company's port system. According to the plan, the company will welcome the tugboat Hai Au 04 by the end of September and put it into operation in December.

In the coming time, Hoa Phat Dung Quat General Container Port will welcome many commercial ships to the port to trade and transport goods to meet production and business needs for the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex as well as business customers at Dung Quat Economic Zone and surrounding areas.
