In August 2020, blast furnace No 3 and basic oxygen furnace No 4 of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Integrated Complex were successfully put into operation, marking an important milestone in the project’s progress. Hoa Phat Dung Quat specialized Port is ready to welcome vessels of 200,000 tonnes. The No 4 blast furnace is expected to officially go into operation in early 2021, completing the investment of the entire project only after four years Hoa Phat Group received the investment license.

The blast furnaces of No 1, 2 and 3 have been stably operating

On August 24, 2020, the project's No 3 blast furnace officially became operational, allowing the company to supply hot rolled coil (HRC) products to the market from the end of September 2020. After 30 days from the date of commencement, the blast furnace No 3 will reach the designed capacity, bringing the capacity of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel integrated Complex to 12-13 thousand tonnes a day.

On August 14, 2020, basic oxygen furnace No 4 of the steel refining factory was successfully run hot test. The project has completed all of its four furnaces. Mr Ngo Duc Tuyen - Head of Technology Department at Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel JSC said that the basic oxygen furnace at Hoa Phat Dung Quat was three times bigger than that in Hai Duong Iron and Steel integrated Complex, applying top and bottom blowing technology as well as integrating sublance system to increase the most modern blow refining frequency.

In addition, the highly automated operation mode provided by the SMS Group (Germany) has helped the reactor in the furnace happen faster, more thoroughly and better reduce impurities. A few days after all four basic oxygen furnaces operated synchronously, the steel factory's output exceeded 10,000 tonnes a day and was very stable. The steel billet output of Hoa Phat Dung Quat reached 1.8 million tonnes so far, including 129,600 tonnes of slab billet for hot rolled coil (HRC) production.

Hoa Phat Dung Quat Specialised Port has completed all the items as designed, ensuring maritime safety requirements. It now can accommodate ships with a tonnage of 200,000 tonnes. Many large vessels carrying materials for production of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel integrated Complex have docked at the port, in which the largest vessel with a tonnage of 180,000 tonnes docked on August 28, 2020.

The construction progress of No 4 high furnace is going smoothly with the timely and close support of foreign experts. When all four blast furnaces in Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel integrated Complex come into operation stably in early 2021, the maximum crude steel output will reach 16,000 tonnes a day, equivalent to about 5 million tonnes per year. From 2021, the group's total crude steel output will reach 8 million tonnes a year, making Hoa Phat the largest steel producer in Vietnam.
