The second blast furnace of Dung Quat 2, and the sixth of the entire Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex, has officially come into operation

Blast Furnace No. 2 was designed, manufactured, and supplied by Danieli Corus (Netherlands). With a volume of 2,500m³, its hot metal output is double that of the furnaces in Dung Quat 1, while consuming less energy. Hoa Phat has also invested in environmental standards that exceed current regulations, particularly in reducing CO₂ emissions and energy consumption.

Cutting-edge equipment plays a decisive role in the project’s success. Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 is equipped with advanced technologies from European and G7 partners, including steelmaking BOF converters and RH vacuum degassing furnaces from SMS (Germany), a thick-slab continuous caster from Primetals (United Kingdom), and blast furnaces from Danieli Corus (Netherlands). This system is designed to achieve the highest product quality, ensuring optimal operation of all critical production stages with the lowest possible production cost and maximum environmental friendliness.

As the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia, Hoa Phat has invested in state-of-the-art technologies based on a closed-loop circular model, recovering all surplus heat and utilizing excess coke oven gas from iron- and steelmaking as boiler fuel for power generation. This advanced system not only improves production efficiency and optimizes product quality, but also saves energy and reduces operating costs.

With the completion of Blast Furnace No. 2 in Dung Quat 2, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex is now operating a total of six blast furnaces - four from the Dung Quat 1 project and two from the Dung Quat 2 project. The complex’s total capacity reaches 12 million tons per year, including 9 million tons of hot-rolled coil (HRC) and other high-quality steel.

In addition to standard HRC, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project focuses on producing premium HRC products for downstream industries such as automotive, food processing, petrochemicals, and household appliances.

Upon full completion of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project, the Group’s total steel output will reach 16 million tons per year, placing it among the world’s top 30 steel enterprises.
