"Breaking into" the quality testing laboratory of more than hundred billion of Hoa Phat steel

Referring to Hoa Phat Steel, people often refer to the word "quality". So in fact, how Hoa Phat control steel quality? What makes the quality of Hoa Phat steel? Let’s break into the quality control department to better understand the process of automated analysis and mechanical testing of products, the strict control from input materials to finished products with the most modern machinery system today.

With the dedication of leading with quality, ensuring the specifications and quality of Hoa Phat steel products when supplying to the market is one of the factors that the Group always focus the most. When implementing Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex Integrated Project, Hoa Phat has invested 2 buildings as an auto quality analysis zone for iron and steel and mechanical product testing area with a total value of over VND 100 billion.

Iron and steel automatic analysis area is a 3-storey building of about 900m2 with the task of checking the quality of liquid iron produced by blast furnaces, samples of blast furnace slag and especially testing the quality of steel in the whole. The production stages include: desulphurization, furnaces, refining, degassing, casting.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Tuan, Deputy Manager of Quality Control Department, Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Company shared: this is the most modern sampling system in the world today, even though factories are far from the analysis area from 1.5- 1.7km but through the system of modern pneumatic air transfer system, it only takes from 30 seconds to 70 seconds to return to the automatic analysis area. Next, the ABB robot (Switzerland) will receive the sample, process the sample, transfer it to the analyzer and automatically transfer the results to the place where the original sample was sent via an automated programming system. The maximum time for the system to return results for steel samples is 2 minutes 30 seconds, cast iron samples are 5 minutes and slag samples are 7-10 minutes.

Mr. Tuan added: here all equipment of the automatic analysis area are imported from the leading European companies such as: sample transfer, sample processing equipment of Herzog, testing and analysis equipment, cast iron, steel Spectro (Germany), slag test equipment, cast iron Pan (Netherlands). Besides, through firing CCM robots, we will analyze the results of steel grades to help Hoa Phat to supply a variety of high quality steel grades to the market.

Not far away is a 2-storey building of about 700m2 with a physical and mechanical testing area of ​​steel products. Here, the finished steel will be tested for the strength, yield, and elongation limits of the steel products with the Japanese Shimadzu tractor system and the microscopic optical microscope.

Mr. Tuan said, he entered Hoa Phat since 2008 when the Hai Duong Steel Complex project was just implemented and when the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Complex project started construction, he was transferred to Dung Quat by the leadership to take on the position of Deputy Manager of Quality Control Department. With him whether in Hai Duong Steel or Dung Quat Steel, Hoa Phat always obey a strict quality control process, standard from raw materials to products of all stages, steel production lines. The enthusiasm of each employee along with modern technology equipment has helped Hoa Phat keep stable steel quality so customers and partners always feel secure when using Hoa Phat steel.
