Hoa Phat’s steel sales volume in December reached highest level of 760,000 tons

In December 2023, Hoa Phat Group produced 648,000 tons of crude steel, an increase of 4 per cent compared to the previous month. Sales of hot rolled coil (HRC) steel products, construction steel and steel billets reached 760,000 tons, posting 7 per cent month-on-month increase. Of which, construction steel and high quality steel were 462,000 tons, increasing 13 per cent compared to last November.

Hoa Phat’s construction steel and high quality steel achieved the highest output in the past 20 months

In the last month of the year, construction steel and high quality steel of all types recorded the highest level since the beginning of the year and in the past 20 months. The domestic market, including the civil sector and public investment projects, has shown more positive signs after a long quiet period. Hoa Phat’s construction steel products have been used in Long Thanh International Airport project, Dien Bien Airport expansion, Tan Son Nhat airport renovation project, North-South Expressway etc.

Hoa Phat Group exported 113,000 tons of construction steel and high quality steel to foreign markets to make wire rods and welding rod cores. The steel export markets includes 30 countries and territories such as Canada, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and Sri Lanka.

In addition to high quality steel coils, the group also exported 103,000 tons of HRC, contributing nearly 40 per cent of Hoa Phat's total hot rolled steel coil sales volume last month. HRC downstream products including steel pipes and galvanized steel sheets reached 68,000 tons and 24,000 tons respectively.

Hoa Phat Group for the first time exported more than 1.1 million tons of HRC in 2023

For the whole year of 2023, Hoa Phat Group produced 6.7 million tons of crude steel, decreasing 10 per cent compared to 2022. Sales volume of HRC steel products, construction steel, high quality steel and steel billet reached 6.72 million tons, representing 7 per cent year-on-year decrease.

Of which, construction steel and high quality steel reached 3.78 million tons, down 11 per cent over the same period last year. HRC hot-rolled steel coil recorded nearly 2.8 million tons, an increase of 6 per cent compared to 2022. At the end of the year, Hoa Phat supplied 685,000 tons of steel pipes, posting 9 per cent year-on-year decrease. Galvanized steel sheets of all types achieved similar results, equivalent to the previous year with volume of 329,000 tons. 

The group currently has a crude steel capacity of 8.5 million tons per year, the largest in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Hoa Phat leads the market share in Vietnam in construction steel, steel pipes, Top 5 largest manufacturers of galvanized steel sheets, and is the only Vietnamese enterprise that can produce HRC steel, pre-stressed steel cables and many types of other high quality steel.
