Improve equipment to enhance production efficiency

In 2013, Hoa Phat Integrated steel complex has continuously performed the research and improvement production technology at all areas of production, thereby improving equipment life, increasing productivity and product quality. Thus, the phase-1 blast furnace was beyond the year plan with 383,000 tons and over 25.8 % compared with 2012.

Firstly, it’s the addition of spraying equipment for sintered machine. According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Duyen, deputy director of Hoa Phat Steel Joint Stock Company, this device helps to increase gas permeability and stability of sintering as well as ore quality. The spraying equipment system has been stably put into operation since December 2013.

For coal gas dust filtration system, the company has expanded from 7 to 10 tanks and put into use Since September 2013, and as a result it has thoroughly overcome the problems caused by overloaded caused the blast furnace coal gas. This system not only ensures stable operation but also solves the problem of environmental pollution, increasing the life of equipments that use energy from blast furnace coal gas.

In addition, the technology staffs at the complex also conducted to install some furnace coal gas recovery equipment and tank. This improvement idea is necessary when phase 2 put into operation in the last October. It has been fully recovered coal gas from the furnace to heat heating furnace of rolling mills in the complex. The system has been operating since November 2013, contributing to a significant decline in coal consumption of coal gas generator. It was down from 8 to 5 ovens. According to initial calculations, furnace coal gas recovery system will be reduced by appx.45-50 % of coal for gas generators.

In the same time, Hoa Phat Steel Joint Stock Company also upgraded furnace of the phase 1 steelmaking mill. Before, this air furnace has a capacity of 30 tons only, and won’t be able to meet requirements both two blast furnaces. Therefore, the furnace upgrade from 30 to 35 tons have resolved this issue and synchronized two furnaces, which helps to regulate the production more rhythmical and favorable ... 

The combination between production and innovative research, upgrading equipment has brought significant effectiveness. This activity not only increases productivity, equipment life of phase 1 but also contributes to synchronizing the operation of both phases of Hoa Phat steel integrated complex. Thus, although phase 2 was just put into operation some months, many areas quickly reached and exceeded design capacity. In January 2014, there were dates that production of two blast furnaces reached 2,900 tons (over 10 % of design capacity in the short term).

In 2014, together with the stability of the second phase, the company plans to get 754,000 tons of pig iron, 51 % higher than 2013, in which the phase 2’s blast furnace accounts for 504,000 tons. And the biggest year goal of the complex is overhauled and upgraded blast furnace of phase 1 from 350 to 400m3 in the period as soon as possible to ensure stability and safety for long-term production. Estimated, Hoa Phat will perform this work by quarter III/2014, while using the more advanced automation system to control operation of the entire complex.
